InsomniaBird

Chicago, Illinois

Born in China, I immigrated to the U.S. at the age of four to join my parents in Bridgeport, Chicago. After teaching public school art for over four years, I left full-time teaching and took on the name InsomniaBird to create out of my apartment. My artwork mainly features acrylic and ink, with reoccurring motifs, including a large-eyed bird. My pieces are influenced by nature, street art, surrealism, and Japanese kawaii, or cute, style and illustrate life’s challenges, and triumphs. (Up)rise was an upcycled deck from Chicago’s local Uprise skate shop, and was exhibited at Harold Washington Library for CPL’s 2019 Asian American/Pacific Islander month.
