Sam Riesmeyer

Sam Riesmeyer is a queer Chinese-American artist based in Chicago. She always had a fascination with drawing and has recently become interested in the dynamism of hands. She began exploring the niche world of embroidery in 2019. She got her start by embroidering small designs on clothing and slowly shifted her focus to hoop pieces. She then delved deeper into her practice as a way to express heartbreak and the subsequent healing and growing process. She subverts the idea of the Chinese “red thread of fate” in her work by cutting the thread between the hands or changing its form to something more malevolent such as a rope to bind.
