Clarisse Perrette

Born in New York City; lives and works in Chicago, Illinois

I am interested in how we construct our selves. What parts and pieces and blank spots come together to create our particular person.

Using shapes, colors, lines, with paints on canvas or with threads on fabric — I obsessively explore our human compositions. I am enthralled with embroidery’s undulating, tactile surface which brings yet another dimension to my human re-constructions. Moreover, the background fabric becomes anchors the embroidered piece just as our own pasts are determinants in each of our identities.
